VIVAnews -- Satelit penjelajah luar angkasa milik Badan Antariksa Amerika Serikat (NASA), Messenger, mengambil foto Bulan sedang mengorbit Bumi.
Foto berlatar hitam yang dipenuhi titik-titik dan noktah putih diambil dari jarak 114 juta mil dari Bumi.
Dalam foto itu terlihat Bumi dan Bulan seperti 'bintang kembar' -- di mana Bulan tentu saja lebih kecil dari Bumi.
Foto menakjubkan itu mengilustrasikan betapa kecilnya kita dibandingkan alam semesta.
Gambar luar biasa ini diambil dalam bagian misi Messenger mencari vulcanoid -- obyek batuan kecil yang diyakini para ilmuwan berada di orbit di antara Planet Merkurius dan Matahari.
Namun, meski tidak ada vulcanoid yang terdeteksi, roket Messenger berada di posisi unik untuk mencari objek kecil dan redup yang sebelumnya tak diperkirakan ada.
Messenger mencari vulcanoids saat orbit pesawat itu paling dekat dengan Matahari. Messenger mengikuti alur bagian dalam sistem tata surya, termasuk satu Bumi, Venus, dan Merkurius.
Messenger dengan menggunakan gravitasi dari Bumi dan Venus akan sedikit demi sedikit mengubah orbitnya sebelum bergerak ke orbit Merkurius pada bulan Maret 2011.
